Current Event: Populations

This is the news article from BBC NEWS: A squash and a squeeze
This article states so many problems about world population and how it is going to be in many years. If we keep going on like this, what would happen?
This basically tells us the estimates on the world's population. Charts and pictures are shown on the link. It is still mainly about England, but if you get the idea, you'll realize how endangered our world is. As some say, we are the cancer of our world. It just keeps getting worse.

Acrostic Poem

Swelling population, people are predicting the population of 2031
T
he UK's population estimate would be 75million by 2031
A
ll are scared, because the power of population is stronger than the power of the Earth
T
he Earth will not be able to support all of mankind soon
I
n 1965, the UK population was being augmented by a much higher total fertility rate
S
tatistics show how wrong the scientists have been about the year 2001
T
he demographers have checked fertility rates and have seen that in the 1960s, the fertility rates dropped
I
know that many are concerned about the environment, like Sir Julian Huxley
C
hallenges are yet to be overcome as our numbers increase
S
truggles to cope with our surging population are still present

Writing Topic 2

The Revealers

In the novel, The Revealers, the students of Parkland Middle felt connected through SchoolStream or as the students called it KidNet where they were able to chat or instant message. Most of you do this nightly through MSN Messenger. With KidNet and MSN nobody could break into or eavesdrop on your conversation without it being known. Not anymore. Today’s technology allows you to assume the identity of another person. Do you really know whom you are talking to in the cyber world?

It is 10:00 pm on a Wednesday night; you have finished your homework and you are chatting on MSN with three other friends. After 10 minutes two more friends ask to join the chat. By 10:30 pm five more people have joined and it is fun; however, there is a joke said about one of the people, rapidly followed by an insult. At first, no one knows how to respond, then seconds later a message pops up stating, “I didn’t say that! It isn’t me saying these things. Someone is using my name. What is going on here?”

What is the issue involved in this scenario? Why is this serious?

What would be a responsible way to handle this situation?

How could a situation like this be resolved? How would one of the three main characters from The Revealers deal with this situation?

My Response: Well, actually it is pretty serious. Someone can fake and lie in MSN. For example, you can say that you caught your brother/sister hacking into your email account instead of taking the blame for yourself.

People can be vicious in the cyber world, and that's why there is also Cyber bullying (sending of offensive emails, text messages, and/or writing something bad about someone in a website or blog).
Back to the topic: If someone did say something bad about someone, and others actually were friends with that other person, I'd be pretty sure that they would defend that person. "You have no right to say that! Blahblah is a great person!" or something. You could leave the conversation, or you could face the bully.
You have to bring this topic up to the person the bully was talking
about, and explain what is happening.  If the bully continues, it
should be talked about with a teacher, or some adult.
Another way to solve this is to stop using the chat program and ignore the bully. What do you get by listening to them? Anger and rage.

They could say something bad about you, but you've got friends there for you... Don't you?

The Main Characters

Russel Trainor

Russel is a middle schooler at Parkland Middle School. He was bullied by Richie, a boy in a grade above, so he started wondering "Why does he do that to me?". He teams up with two other main characters and fights back against the bullies... Not physically or mentally... Just in a way that will humiliate them all...
Background Information:
-Dad died when he was young
-Likes root beer
Note: That's all for now... This is only some background information... It's taken place in some parts of the story... But not all.

Elliot Gekewicz
Elliot is your ordinary middle schooler. He gets bullied all the time... By everyone. He gets laughed at and teased. He doesn't seem to mind. Elliot will be the primary source of information for Russel in this story. Together, they build up a rebel force!
Background Information
-Is a dinosaur freak... Knows everything about them...
-Only friend is Catalina -- Another main character.
Note: Those two actually take a big role in the story.

Catalina Aarons
Catalina is a tall girl from Manila, in the Philippines and America. She moved from the Philippines because her father's job made them move. Her mother didn't want to move so the parents disagreed. She lives with her father in America.
Catalina joins in with Russel and Elliot to fight the bullies because she was bullied by Bethany DeMere. They got in serious trouble for doing something they thought was right... And now they will get revenge!
Background Information
-Doesn't get to communicate much with her mother
-Misses her mother... A LOT (wouldn't you?)
-Writes a TRUE story about herself because Bethany writes false things
-Likes dinosaurs like Elliot
-Elliot's first and true friend
Note: Last three have a great emphasis on the storyline.

Those are the three main characters of the story.
More information later...

Writing Topic 1

--The Revealers--
Blog Writing Topic
Blog Question: Is bullying a rite of passage of childhood and adolescence? Is it apart of the maturation process one needs to go through to reach adulthood? Explain. Mrs. Hogeboom brings up this topic on page 108.

My Opinion: Yes, because it helps you learn some things such as calling for help, defending themselves and more. If no one has ever gone through bullying, well, it's quite weird. You could learn by yourself, but bullying is the hard easy way. Bullying affects the kids in a way. It teaches them to be aware of things too, and be careful. Understanding and thinking are skills to develop in bullying too. So, yes is the answer for me.

Introduction

Well, this is my first blog, Nobody Wins, so take it easy on me ><" This blog is used for interacting with AIS/D 7th Grade Language Art class. Right now, we are discussing the novel, The Revealers. Keep reading for more information!

Basically, this book, The Revealers is based on bullying at school. It was written by Doug Wilhelm.
This story is told by Russel, a middle schooler at Parkland Middle School, also referred to as Darkland, because the students really have something against it...
The title of my blog, Nobody Wins, is basically telling about how bullying doesn't help anyone. By bullying, no one "wins" anything, because you'll lose anyways.
Since bullying is a major case in all schools, Mrs. Cook made the right choice. By reading this book, we understand some things that we don't and know what we should do and/or avoid in these cases.
We should think before performing our actions. Like a bully named Richie who plans steps ahead.

That's all for now. Hope you read
The Revealers; it will truly reveal something!
